Splish! Splash! Water Play and why we love it!
You’ll always find water play at a Little Learners class in West Northamptonshire and Kettering! Whether it’s a pond with frogs in, cooking noodle soup or full of magical, glowing ice cubes there’s always a chance to explore water in one of my classes because it’s a crucial part of childhood development.
Water Play Benefits!
Water based activities a number of benefits. It stimulates curiosity and exploration, encouraging children to experiment with cause and effect. When they fill and empty containers, observe floating and sinking objects, or mix wet and dry ingredients, they are developing important problem – solving and scientific inquiry skills. It also enhances their understanding of basic mathematical concepts such as volume, measurement, and comparison.
Try Water Play at Home!
At Little Learners West Northamptonshire you’ll always find a wide range of tools available to use. This is because they help refine both gross and fine motor skills. Activities like pouring, stirring, and squeezing strengthen hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
One of the benefits of having large tubs to play with means that children in class get the opportunity to cooperate and communicate with each other. They learn to share tools, take turns, and collaborate in games and activities.
Why not try out some of the activities in the gallery below out at home? You can do them inside or outside but I promise it’ll have numerous developmental benefits beyond just keeping your Little Learners entertained!
Noodle Soup Activity!
A tried and tested activity that little ones love!
- Choose your noodles! (Prepackaged noodles can be easily cooked or if you’re in a pinch, spaghetti is a great option too!)
- Fill a large bucket (or even a washing up bowl) with water.
- Add your noodles.
- In a separate bowl, add plastic vegetables (you could even use real veggies!).
- Place scoops, spatulas or even tweezers around the bucket and encourage your child to make their soup by adding the vegetables one at a time. This is a great role play activity… Chef’s Hat anyone? Tool use is also great for honing fine motor skills!
- If you want to add some extra writing practice in there, why not get your little one to write their recipe down too.
Water play should always be supervised! Take a look at the gallery below for even more inspiration!
