Rock & Roll Mark Making!

I’m always on the look out for new mark making tools and toys to improve my classes and keep my activities up to date, so I was really excited to try out some new play dough and painting tools in my last few classes and at home with my own children too. I got the rock and roll mark making set from www.earlyyearsresources.co.uk and instantly loved the little play dough stampers. I have lots of play dough toys and they’re often a little flimsy and hard for little ones to hold and use effectively – but not these bad boys! They are so easy to grip with their little handles and they have really interesting textured patterns on them.

Penny was the perfect child to try these stampers out on as she absolutely loves play dough! She chose a dinosaur cutter to make a shape from and then we talked about putting a pattern on the Dino! She chose spots and stripe “like a tiger” and rolled the stampers over the play dough! It created a perfect pattern for her animal and gave us lots to talk about too.

I recently had a house full of toddlers to entertain ranging from 18 months to 4 1/2 and they were perfect for them all: robust enough for the little ones to bash around and interesting and useful for the older ones to explore lots of different patterns and textures with.

I loved the play dough stampers as they were so solid and well made, so I was really excited to try out the paint rollers too. These are equally as well made and as they are solid plastic and rubber they feel a lot less flimsy than the little plastic and sponge ones. I noticed at my class that the older toddlers were really drawn to them and loved using them. I was also pleasantly surprised how easy to clean they were – always such a bonus when you work in Early years and spend your days washing out paint pots!

The rollers come in lots of interesting patterns and after a bit of getting used to (you need just the right amount of paint) they leave wonderful patterns. One of my Little Learners, Daisy, 2, absolutely loves painting herself at my classes and she loved using the rollers to create stripes on her skin!

I have lots of pairs of siblings at my class and the pack suits a range of ages. Little ones love exploring the movement and older ones really get into the patterns they can create. They were a cracking little find and I know they will last me for SO long and become a firm favourite at my classes.
