About me

Ashleigh at Little Learners North West Kent

Ashleigh

ashleigh@littlelearnersuk.com

Hi! My name is Ashleigh and I am so excited to be your class leader at Little Learners North West Kent, continuing to deliver messy play classes and events following the multi-award winning educational mark-marking program.

I live in Greenhithe with my partner and my 5 year old step-daughter. I am a qualified primary school teacher with a degree in Early Childhood Studies and have years of experience working with young children as a teacher, childminding assistant and nanny.

As a nanny, I attended Little Learners messy play classes in the area and I have been interested in the venture ever since. I have finally decided to take the leap so that I can work around my step-daughter and her schooling and use all of my experience and understanding of children’s development in a fun and engaging way.

I look forward to building relationships with all of the children and families, old and new, and helping the children to ‘make their mark’! I deliver sessions across Kent as well as for local schools, charities and councils in Dartford and surrounding areas. We’re all about supporting children to develop their mark-making (pre-writing) skills through educational messy play, gross and fine motor activities and lots of creativity!

Parent Testimonials

Find out what people say, don’t take our word for it!

“Little learners is such an amazing group, and was mine and my sons favourite toddler group to attend. My son went here for 2 and half years and it was so lovely seeing his progress and journey along the way . The activities are so beneficial in so many ways , not only are new friendships made but its a massive step towards those early writing skills, and motor skills. For my son he also benefited from the sensory therapeutic nature of the activities which really demonstrated how these activities are tailored to suit all individuals and each child will gain something different from them. Aisha always made us feel welcome and was so supportive to me and my son always going the extra mile! It meant so much to me and my son it made a difference to the start and foundation of his learning and acceptance in the world and its all because of you Aisha! Little learners is extremely friendly and inclusive to all , we miss it so much and would highly recommend!”

I can’t recommend for little ones enough. So much fun and creativity, you can really see how much effort Aisha goes to to make her class so special. Booked into 3 summer classes too. Can’t wait!

“My 19 month old son, has been attending for a year now! He loves it and really enjoys exploring all the different sensory activities. He has developed so much. Plus saves me the mess at home. Aisha is just so friendly, welcoming and kind. She really makes the experience magical. Always brilliant that all activities are dairy and nut free.”

FAQ’s

Frequently Asked Questions

Messy play isn’t just about having fun (although that’s a big part of it!). It’s also a crucial aspect of children’s development.

Here’s why:

Little Learners was created by a qualified early years primary teacher who designed a ‘messy play’ mark making programme where babies (right up to pre-schoolers) use painting, play dough, scribbling and more to learn early writing skills.  Your baby will use hands, fingers, feet and toes to make marks which will benefit their core muscles and develop their gross and fine motor skills.

Although we use resources which are non-toxic, as you most likely know only too well – babies and toddlers attempt to ‘eat’ almost anything! Parent/carer supervision is required for your child just as at home. Please talk to your class leader if you have any concerns (including making them aware of any specific allergies) or to discuss the resources which will be in use in class.

Not their very best outfit! Your child will get messy so anything loose, comfortable and easily washed will be great! We also sell branded Little Learners t-shirts and hoodies – let your class leader know you’re interested or alternatively your can purchase at our online shop.

Classes are designed for babies from 5 months up to 5 years

  • Welcome and introduction to the weekly theme
  • Unstructured play across the stations including;
    • Wet messy play (e.g water, slime, chia seed, tapioca pearls etc)
    • Dry messy play (e.g cereals, grains, pasta etc)
    • Playdough
    • Painting/Art Exploration
    • Fine Motor Skills
    • Colouring In
    • Gross Motor Play
  • Pack Up and Goodbye

Some children dislike the feeling of messy play initially and this is often overcome when they see other children having fun! However, if your child has specific needs with regards to sensory play, noise, light, interactions with other children (or any other!), please do speak to your class leader as we are passionate about inclusivity and we will do what we can to make adaptations so your child can better participate and enjoy the experience. Here at Little Learners we are all about YOUR child. ♥️

Your child will interact at their own speed. You can encourage them by interacting with the resources yourself – e.g. lifting up ‘gloop’ and slopping it down accompanied with sound effects. Or letting rice run through your hands on eye-level with your child will be engaging for them.

Completely! Please don’t worry if your child hasn’t yet begun to make marks as such – they will be observing all the time and will surprise you when you’re least expecting it. Also – by picking up tools and resources they are developing their gross and fine motor skills. As at home, distraction techniques work best when a child is fixated on putting tools/resources towards their mouth.

Yes. Please discuss with your area Little Learners class leader. Only siblings of the child participant qualifies for a discount.

As our classes follow a designed programme, they follow a term format.  However, there may be occasions when individual leaders offer drop-ins, subject to availability. This must be booked with the leader in your area before attending however – so check the website link for your area.

Generally speaking this won’t be possible as the place has been reserved for your child, but speak to your class teacher in case there may be the opportunity to rearrange.
