Little Learners Stockport – Confidence, Creativity and Community
For the owner of Little Learners Stockport, the inspiration to run messy play classes began in the most natural way – as a mum.
“I attended class with all three of my children and always enjoyed them,” Danielle explains. “I saw my children grow and gain confidence weekly, which made me want to provide that for other children too.”
Having previously worked in childcare, early childhood development had always been close to her heart. Combining that professional experience with her love of creative play at home made launching her own classes as part of the Little Learners franchise network feel like the perfect next step.
Since opening, the journey has been a hugely positive one.
“I have loved meeting so many new faces and experimenting with new ingredients each week,” she says. “I especially loved the Christmas period – it was so magical for everybody.”
A Relaxed Approach to Messy Play at Little Learners Stockport
For families who may be new to messy play, Little Learners Stockport offers a welcoming and pressure-free environment. Sessions are carefully planned and include a mixture of wet and dry trays, allowing children to explore in a way that suits their mood and comfort level on the day.
“We create a relaxed environment which suits everybody,” Danielle explains. “Children have the opportunity to explore based on how they feel.”
Beyond the trays of colourful, sensory-rich materials, there’s something else that makes the classes special: connection. Many parents who attend weekly build friendships while their children explore freely and confidently.
Why Messy Play Matters
Messy play is about far more than getting stuck in. It supports how babies and toddlers naturally learn through their senses.
“Messy play is so important in my opinion because it supports learning through the senses,” she says. “It boosts brain development, motor skills, language, confidence and creativity – all while letting children learn through joy, curiosity and play.”
One particularly powerful moment highlights the impact these sessions can have. A young boy and his mum initially struggled with mess and certain sensory experiences. A small, simple tray was introduced just for them in week one. Gradually, their confidence grew.
“As time has gone on, they attend weekly and are fully involved,” she shares. “It’s been so great to see not only the child but the mum too face things together.”
