Little Learners celebrates National Storytelling Week 2025!
We love stories and every year, Little Learners across the UK celebrate all things children’s literature through our National Storytelling Week themed classes. Our franchisees go all out to make some incredible children’s literature themed activities and tuff trays – take a look for some book themed inspiration!
Why celebrate National Storytelling Week 2025?
With children’s literacy still struggling to reach pre pandemic levels, there is no finer time to nurture children’s love of books and reading! We all have our favourite stories and they can be a great way to not only encourage reading but to be used as a jumping off point for other storytelling activities!
Storytelling through play!
When given an open-ended tray to explore, children naturally begin to create their own stories. This is a great way to boost language and communication skills as children tell their creative stories to you or a play mate. You can facilitate this play by providing tools and toys, but no clear instructions on how to explore the tray. Let them make their own fun!
National Storytelling Week and Mark Making!
If you want to encourage reading AND writing… why not try a mark making tray? Pick your favourite book, supply some mark making materials and let them trace the letters or words from the story on to the tray… you can even incorporate sensory play by creative use of mark making and messy play tools. Try this fabulous activity for some Storytelling Week inspiration!
