Little Learners Playspace is a fabulous indoor play centre in Ashington focussing on encouraging writing skills and learning through play.

At Playspace, every child can be helped to make their mark through our play sessions, parties, private hire, events and a range of educational resources in our shop. Our aim is to make writing fun for your little ones, so all the activities on offer are specifically designed to develop your child’s motor skills and learn the basics of writing through PLAY!

What should my child wear?

Not their very best outfit! Your child will get messy so anything loose, comfortable and easily washed will be great! We also sell branded Little Learners t-shirts and hoodies at Playspace, alongside other products for your little one!

What are the benefits of Little Learners classes for children?

Little Learners was created by a qualified early years primary teacher who designed a ‘messy play’ mark making programme where children (babies right up to pre-schoolers) use painting, play dough, scribbling and more to learn early writing skills. Your baby will use hands, fingers, feet and toes to make marks which will benefit their core muscles and develop their gross and fine motor skills.

What age are Mini Mark Makers classes suitable for?

Mini Mark Makers classes are suitable for babies aged 0-9 months! If your little one turns 9 months during a term, don’t worry – you’re very welcome to complete the term before moving up to our Messy Mark Makers classes.

What ages are Messy Mark Makers classes suitable for?

Our main class ‘Messy Mark Makers’ is suitable for children from 5 months to 5 years! If your little one is under 5 months, we recommend our specialty baby class ‘Mini Mark Makers’.

My child doesn’t like getting messy, will Little Learners classes be ok for them?

Some children dislike the feeling of messy play initially and this is often overcome when they see other children having fun! However, if your child has specific needs with regards to sensory play, noise, light, interactions with other children etc, please do speak to your class leader as we are passionate about inclusivity and we will do what we can to make adaptations so your child can better participate and enjoy the experience.

Do you do ‘drop-in’ sessions, or must I commit to a term?

We always advise joining us for the full term, as our classes follow a unique to Little Learners early writing programme. However, we do offer drop ins as we understand life with small children can be hectic. However, don’t forget that term bookings receive a small discount!
