About me

Hello my name is Joanna and I live in Wakefield with my husband Ian and our daughter Myla (1 year). I run Little Learners educational messy play classes and parties in Wakefield. Little Learners is a multi award-winning educational mark making program that develops early writing skills through messy play.

I am a qualified PE Teacher and have taught in schools for over 11 years, the past 5 years I was teaching abroad in Shanghai, China and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia within British International Schools, teaching children from pre-school through to sixth-form. I have a passion for teaching and love that I can share my passion through Little Learners classes with the children of Wakefield. Teaching has given me first-hand experience of what mark making brings to children. Mark making supports skills needed for early writing, fine motor skills, hand-eye co-ordination and so much more.

What are Little Learners classes all about?

Little Learners is a wonderful way to engage young children and develop their physical skills such as core strength and coordination, as well as social and communication skills. Enjoying messy play sessions helps to develop their early writing skills too. Each week we practise a different shaped mark. As the children practise making marks, we can start to show them how to form letters and numbers. This is great for getting them ready for school!

Classes are all mixed ages with activities to suit babies up to pre-schoolers. This means that they are great for siblings.

My aim is that my classes are relaxed, welcoming and fun, enabling you to spend time with your child and help them to develop skills they will need for the future. Daddy Learn With Me!

Every 1st Saturday of the month we run a Daddy Learn With Me! class just for Dad’s. After seeing the boost in confidence my husband got taking our daughter to a class I knew this was something I wanted to offer to the Dad’s in Wakefield. The opportunity to spend quality time with your little ones, whilst also having the support of a qualified teacher and getting to meet other Dad’s…and did I mention all that is whilst having lots of messy play and mark making fun!
