Messy Play on Pancake Day!
Do you make pancakes on Shrove Tuesday? Did you know letting your little ones help improves their fine and gross motor skills? So why not do Messy Play on Pancake Day!! We have a very simple task which is fun, messy and very educational for your Little Learner.
At our classes this week we have been encouraging our Little Learners to mix their own pancake mix using a whisk and bowl. We used Tesco Everyday Value Sponge Mix which is dairy free, but you could use batter mix or even make your own. The whisking motion improves their gross motor skills, building up the strength in their core muscles.
In our pancake tray we simply had some mix, bowls, whisks, sauce bottles and a flour sifter. The idea was to let them explore, create and use their imagination. Some like to whisk up the mixture, others enjoyed using their hands and some loved adding the sauces! Or (as you can see in the picture above) putting the bowl on their heads to get a better taste!
Adding Strawberry and Chocolate sauce to the mixing also adds an extra bit of fun! It encourages hand-eye coordination and strengthening those muscles when they squeeze the bottle.
